    Hey Guys and Gals.

    If you don't mind sharing.

How did you get into internet marketing?
What lead you to this path?

    For me.

I am from Gary, Indiana. Yes, it's the home town of Michael Jackson lol.
Not the greatest area in the world. But there are some descent people who are just like us all. Looking to make a good life for themselves. It saddens me to see some kids still wanting the quick and easy money which leads them to a life on the streets. Sure, they are making good money. But 1. it's not legal. 2. It's DANGEROUS!!!

    Anyhow.

When my brother and I were young. My dad saw something in computers and technology in general. It's funny that my mom saw no value in them. She got on my dad's case whenever he had us around them. She called them idiot boxes lol. I guess my mom thought they were time wasters. She would rather us read books instead.

As time went on. My dad's only hope was to at least have my brother and I be descent with computers. Well, we ended up falling in love with them. So we ran with it.

I ended getting a bachelor's at Purdue University in Computer Information Systems Technology. So did my brother. He actually just got a masters in business. We are extremely close. He is my best friend. I am proud of him for sticking with the masters program while being married with a young child.

For the last 15 years. I have been working as a software engineer / architect for various companies. Some of them large. Some of them small. I really enjoy the work. I moved to Chicago a few years ago for better work opportunities. Landed a pretty cool gig that I do full time now. I always wanted to work in the health related field. I get satisfaction in designing software systems that helps doctors make better decisions with their patients. It's cool to also work with good people.

But when I sit back and think about what lead me here to marketing.
    I think it's a combination of 3 things.

    1. My dad. He is a retired electrician who loves electronics. He loves to take things apart and reverse engineer them. This rubbed off on me. I love taking internet campaigns and try to reverse engineer them. To see what makes them tic.

    2. My mom: She is a retired special education teacher. One of her hidden talents is actually art and drawing. Anything creative is what she loved.
This also rubbed off on me. I love to create and inspire with creativity.
    It's just fun to me.

    3. The Challenge: I personally feel that we all need to find something that will

    1. Actually be hard for us to achieve to some degree.
    2. Help us improve ourselves.
    3. Allow us to help improve someone else's life.

Internet Marketing is perfect for this. Especially since the internet is global. We all have the chance to do this on a global level.

All in all. I am in the process of creating a product and training videos myself.
I think it's important to pass down the information that I have learned to others. I am hoping that one day I can get more kids off the street. And point them to internet marketing. Point them to meet more people like you guys on this forum. I don't really care too much about the money. Sure, I will take extra cash lol . But I have been blessed to have a descent middle class job that I love. I just need something else that I can apply my creative and business passions to. This is perfect for that.

    I know this was long.

    But what is your story?

    Mark

    Hey Mark,

Thanks for the great intro and what a worthy cause as well. ;)

For myself, I am an Australian, but have been living in Japan for the past 12 years. I have a strong sales/marketing background, was part-time online for a few years, then went full-time from 2006 onward.

Been involved with many IM models since then, including online/offline consulting. Currently, I am focusing on expanding my portfolio of virtual real estate properties and numerous online marketing activities, which include of course, JVFocus.com.

I originally joined William Murray's old Facebook group, then this forum and the new FB groups, before partnering with him last year. William has stepped out of the IM space now, but he is still around and you will see him 'pop in' here and in the FB groups from time to time.

    ;)

Hi Mark, First of all a big welcome and awesome introduction...! We have very similar backgrounds wrt IT..

Mike - Wow sounds amazing that you're living in Japan! Its certainly a place that's on my bucket list to visit..

With me being in the UK - I think between us we've got all of the time zones covered lol... Phileas Fogg would be impressed!

On my part I got into IM, initially out of curiosity back in around 07, whilst I was living/working in the Netherlands... During that time I was very much immersed in the corporate world as a software developer...

I guess it was a passive interest which I kept getting drawn into some how with the idea of working online and not being tied to the gluttony of 9-5 being really appealing.. Further reinforced with reading many success stories of IM entrepreneurs...

Cutting the long story short a couple of major things happened in my life during 2011/12.. Its strange but when trials and tribulations happen - they all seem to occur at the same time... Well it did for me ;-) Relationship breakdown, mum passing away ... being separated from my kid whom now lives in Germany...

Its at that point I decided to move back to the UK so I could keep an eye on my dad as well as pursue the lifestyle that would allow me to work when and where I want wrt IM with taking it from being a hobby into something much more...

So for the last few years I've been living away from the corporate world and have no desire to ever go back to it lol... I was even lucky enough to meet the woman of my dreams, got married and recently became a dad again to a very gorgeous baby girl...

These days I work unusual hours like when my bubba gets up at 2am for a feed and leaving me to stay awake to work during the twilight hours... So I guess she keeps me on my toes lol.. I'm enjoying every moment and unlike a lot of other dads whom have to work away from home, I'm fortunate to be able to spend tons of time with both my girls... and as for my eldest I do everything to support her and visit her as regularly as I can...

So you can say my story is in part due to circumstances - but I'm sure regardless I would of ended up here in IM... It's in the blood I'm sure of it...

Some time in our lives we all go through trials and tribulations and I am sure many of us will have taken that as an opportunity to pursue a new change and challenges for the better!

    Hey Sid,

Thanks for the most interesting background info. I agree, I think we have pretty much got the time-zones covered. ;)

Absolutely and when it's all said and done, there is only one thing to do and that's keep moving forward. We have one life, so live it! ;)

    Yes indeed! I Mis-read:

I read it as "I am Gary"... I didn't think for a second that a place called Gary existed... Suffice to say nice one, I've amended my post lol... I might have to check out Gary as well as Japan now ;-))
